The RAF’s cancellation of Cosford fly-in on Saturday felt awfully disappointing, especially as we picked a day with just about perfect weather. The success of the entire weekend looked at risk. But, I’m glad to say that the Saturday evening dinner table was full, and we had a much enjoyed meal, banter and general catching up with fellow Beagle-rs. Sunday weather deteriorated somewhat, and a few who had hoped to fly into Sleap on Sunday were prevented from doing so by dubious conditions further south. Still, we visited the Museum with the extensive range of WWII aircraft artefacts. The most fascinating to me was display explaining the Operation Freshman, (a disastrous attempt for two Halifax bombers, each towing a Horsa glider, deployed to destroy a heavy-water plant associated with German research on the atomic bomb).
We had some good activity at the airfield, and enjoyed the lunch at the cafe with friends that arrived by air or road.
